Want more website traffic?

Who doesn’t!

In this guide, we’re going to share the best ways we know to consistently and systematically drive traffic to any website. Each of these has been proven to work in businesses of all kinds.

And they will work for your business.

But before we get into that… give me just 60 seconds of your time to explain why driving more traffic to your existing website MIGHT be a terrible idea.

Do This BEFORE You Drive Tons of Traffic to Your Website

A rising tide lifts all boats.

Or so you’ve heard.

Allegedly, if you drive more traffic to your website, you’re going to get more leads and sales, right? Your business is going to thrive and you’re going to sit on the beach drinking vodka martinis (shaken, not stirred), living the entrepreneurial dream.

That IS possible.

But it might not be possible with your existing website.

Why?

Well, it all has to do with conversion. You might have a website… but if that website isn’t built to systematically turn visitors into leads and leads into customers, then more traffic isn’t going to get you the results you want.

Check out the video below to get our take on modern-day websites…

The point is, just having a website isn’t good enough.

And it’s not going to get you the results you want — even if you’re getting tons of high-quality traffic.

Instead, you need a sales funnel.

What is a sales funnel?

Where a website is like a digital brochure, a sales funnel is like that experience you get when you are greeted and guided by an excellent salesperson.

The sales funnel is built to point people toward one specific product or service, and it does so relentlessly, building credibility and authority with every page and click.

More simply, it’s a series of pages that guide people toward taking an action.

And depending on the action you want people to take — opt-in to a lead magnet, purchase a product, sign up for a webinar, etc. — we’ve built different sales funnel templates that are tested and proven to convert visitors far better than your typical website.

Here, for example, is a glimpse at our Tripwire Funnel. This is one of the best for turning cold traffic into paying customers.

Do This BEFORE You Drive Tons of Traffic to Your Website, 2 step tripwire funnel.

We also have sales funnel templates for turning visitors into leads, leads into customers, and customers into loyalists.

No matter what you’re trying to do, there’s a sales funnel for that. 😉

These convert far better than your run-of-the-mill website.

So we HIGHLY recommend building a sales funnel to make the most of the traffic you’re about to drive.

Good to go?

Then let’s dive into the traffic-driving tactics.

1. Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization is how you get your website to rank in the search engines for specific keywords that your target market type into Google.

For example, when we create content here at ClickFunnels for SEO, we want to rank for things like “sales funnel” and “sales funnel templates” because that’s what our target market is searching for.

We also target adjacent terms like this article — “website traffic.”

How much traffic can you drive using SEO?

Well, at ClickFunnels we’re getting over 140,000 visits per month entirely through Google!

Search Engine Optimization

So… the sky is the limit.

The more content you create and the better that content is, the more rankings you’re going to claim and the more traffic you’re going to drive.

The best part is, once you claim a top spot, it tends to stay there for a while.

But… how do you do it?

Here’s a quick — and very oversimplified — rundown on how to do SEO:

  • 1st. You need to understand your target market. Who are they?
  • 2nd.  What kind of language do they use when talking about the problem you solve? In other words, what keywords and phrases are they typing into Google? These are called “keywords.”
  • 3rd. You need to create content that’s optimized to rank for those keywords.
  • 4th. Once you have that content, you need to promote it!

If this sounds like a lot of work… it is.

But it’s worth it because once you get the hang of how to do SEO and start driving traffic, you’ve got a huge advantage over the competition.

This is the long game, and in terms of organic methods, it’s one of our favorite traffic strategies here at ClickFunnels.

2. Social Media Ads

We hate to be the bearer of bad news. But for the most part — for the average business — organic reach on social media is dead.

Social platforms make it nearly impossible for business accounts to reach their target market in any meaningful numbers.

Why?

Because they want those businesses to pay for ads.

So if you want to get in front of your target market on social media, you’re going to have to pay for it.

Fortunately, though, the cost of advertising on social media is relatively low.

You can get started with a very small budget and scale up as you drive more traffic and sales.

Social media ads are one of the quickest and most effective ways to increase your website traffic. They’re also pretty user-friendly.

We run ads all the time!

Social Media Ads

However, you don’t just want to run ads that say, “Hey. Check out my business!”

You need a reason and a goal for running the advertisements. Where are you pointing people? What do you want them to do? Are you driving new traffic and generating leads? Retargeting people who abandoned their shopping cart? Something else?

Again, you need a sales to funnel to make this process as profitable as possible.

Here are some tips for getting the most out of your social media advertisements…

  • Test, test, and test some more. A/B split testing is essential for finding the right ad copy, images, and offers that work best for your target market.
  • Keep your ads fresh. Don’t just let them run on auto-pilot. Check in often to see how they’re performing and make changes as needed.
  • Take advantage of retargeting. This is where you show ads to people who have already visited your website or taken some kind of action. They’re much more likely to convert into a customer or client than someone who hasn’t heard of you before.

3. Google Ads

Google Ads is another way to increase your website traffic by paying for it.

You can run ads on Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs) and on websites that are part of the Google Display Network.

Google Ads

Google Ads is a bit more complex than social media ads but can be just as effective — if not more so.

The biggest advantage of Google Ads is that you can laser-target your audience. You can show your ads to people who are searching for exactly what you offer or who have visited similar websites in the past.

You can also set a very specific budget and only pay when someone clicks on your ad. This is called “pay-per-click” (PPC) advertising.

Google Ads can be very effective but, again, it’s important to have a sales funnel in place to make the most of your investment.

Here are some tips for getting started with Google Ads…

  • Start with keyword research. You need to know what people are searching for before you can create effective ads.
  • Create separate campaigns for each product or service you offer. This will make it easier to track your results and make changes as needed.
  • Use negative keywords. These are keywords that you don’t want your ad to show up for. For example, if you sell women’s clothing, you might use “men” as a negative keyword so your ad doesn’t show up when someone searches for “men’s clothing.”
  • Set a budget and bid strategically. You don’t want to overspend on your Google Ads campaigns. But you also don’t want to underbid and miss out on potential customers.
  • Monitor your results. Google Ads provides a lot of data that you can use to improve your campaigns. Check-in often and make changes as needed.

4. Google Business Profile

One of the best — and easiest — ways to increase your website traffic if you’re a local business is to create a Google Business Profile.

This is a free listing that shows up when people search for your business on Google.

It includes your business name, address, phone number, website, directions, hours, reviews, and more.

When people search for something relevant to your business — such as “spa near me” — Google prioritizes the Google Business Profile listings.

5. Newsletter/Podcast Sponsorships

Another great way to get more website traffic is to sponsor a newsletter or podcast.

This is similar to guest blogging but with a few key differences.

With guest blogging, you write an article for someone else’s website. But with a newsletter or podcast sponsorship, you’re paying to have your ad included in someone else’s email newsletter or podcast episode.

This is a great way to reach new people within your target market.

The most important thing is that you sponsor newsletters or podcasts that have an audience full of people within your target market.

For example, if you sell women’s clothing, you might sponsor a fashion-related newsletter or podcast.

The cost of doing this varies greatly depending on the podcast or newsletter you’re sponsoring. Here are some more tips to keep in mind if you go this route…

  • Make sure you’re sponsoring a successful podcast or newsletter with a large audience.
  • Be strategic about when you sponsor an episode or send out your ad. You want to make sure people are actually paying attention to it.
  • Include a CTA in your ad so people know what you want them to do after they see it.

6. Guest Blogging

Guest blogging is when you write an article for someone else’s website or blog.

It’s a great way to get exposure for your business and to build relationships with other businesses in your industry.

Most importantly, though, it can help you get more website traffic.

When you guest blog, you typically include a link back to your own website in your author bio. This can send new visitors to your site.

You can also use guest blogging as an opportunity to build relationships with other bloggers and influencers in your industry. These are people who can help promote your business to their audience.

Here are some tips for guest blogging…

  • Make sure you’re writing for a high-quality website or blog. This will give you the best chance of getting traffic from your guest post.
  • Write something that’s truly valuable and informative. The more helpful your article is, the more likely it is that people will want to read it.
  • Include a call-to-action (CTA) in your author bio. This can be a link to your website, a free download, or anything else that you want people to do after reading your article.

7. Influencer Marketing

How has ClickFunnels built so much brand awareness?

In part, through influencer marketing.

ClickFunnels has partnered with some of the biggest names in online marketing, including Tony Robbins, Dan Kennedy, and tons more.

These influencers have helped ClickFunnels get its name out there and attract new customers.

You can do the same thing for your business.

Find influencers in your industry and reach out to them. Ask if they’re interested in partnering with you or promoting your business to their audience.

This can be a great way to get more website traffic and build relationships with other businesses in your industry.

More specifically, we recommend using our Dream 100 process.

This will give you a proven method for finding and working with top influencers in your market.

8. Affiliate Marketing

What if influencers in your market — people who are already trusted by your dream customers — started promoting your products?

Better yet, what if you only had to pay them a percentage of the sales they made for you?

That’s what affiliate marketing is all about.

With affiliate marketing, you find businesses or individuals who are willing to promote your products or services. In exchange, they get a commission on any sales they make for you.

This can be a great way to get more website traffic and increase sales.

To prove it, look at what happens when you type “ClickFunnels review” into YouTube. Tons of people who are ClickFunnels affiliates are promoting our services without any of our help.

This results in millions of dollars in sales for our business.

9. Giveaways

People love free stuff.

That’s why giveaways are such a popular way to increase website traffic and grow your email list.

To do a giveaway, all you need to do is offer the possibility of winning something for free in exchange for people’s contact information (usually an email address).

You can give away products, services, gift cards, or anything else you can think of.

The bigger the prize, the more likely people will be to enter your giveaway.

You could give away a list of books that your target market would be interested, a lifetime subscription to your service, or something else.

Giveaways

Just make sure that your giveaway will ONLY attract people who are part of your target market — otherwise, you’ll end up with a big email list of people who aren’t interested in what you’re selling.

So how do you set this up?

Check out KingSumo for software to run your giveaway. They make the whole process super easy. And you can even allow people to share the giveaway on social media in order to get more entries and increase their chances of winning.

10. Referral Program

A referral program is pretty much what it sounds like — you give people an incentive to refer new customers or website visitors to your business.

For example, when you sign up for Dropbox, they give you 500 MB of storage space for every person you refer.

Referral Program

This is a great way to increase website traffic since it encourages people to talk about your business and tell others about it.

And the more people who know about your business, the more likely they are to visit your website or buy your products or services.

11. Review Listings

If you want to get more website traffic, it’s important that people can find your site when they search for it online.

One way to make sure this happens is to claim and optimize your business’s listings on review sites like Yelp, Google My Business, and TripAdvisor.

When people search for businesses in your industry, your listing will come up. And if you’ve optimized it, you’ll be more likely to get website visitors.

ClickFunnels, for example, gets the following results when you type “ClickFunnels reviews” into Google.

Review Listings

We’ve got review listings with G2, Trust Radius, Trust Pilot, and many more.

Why?

Because those listings increase brand awareness by appearing on Google for these types of searches.

You should do the same thing.

Look up listing sites relevant to your market and your type of service or product, contact those sites, and ask them to create a listing for your business.

Final Thoughts

Getting more website traffic doesn’t have to be complicated.

There are a number of simple things you can do to increase traffic to your site, including the options listed above.

It’s simply a matter of choosing which methods you want to pursue and then committing to them for an allotted period of time.

Because whatever you choose, the more you practice the better you’ll get.

So choose something, try it for a while, and see how it goes.
