Subtitles in your Doodly Videos
Hey there! Did you know that you can add subtitles to your awesome Doodly videos?
It’s true! And in this blog post, we’ll walk you through the steps to do it. Plus, we’ll share why subtitles can be super beneficial for your videos and all the other ways you can use the subtitle feature in Doodly.
So, what are subtitles exactly? They’re those helpful lines of text at the bottom of the screen that either translate the dialogue into a different language or provide a transcript of the entire video. You can even use subtitles to create captions for your video.
Now, why should you bother adding subtitles to your video? Well, here are a couple of great reasons:
1. Accessibility:
Did you know that around 5.5% of the world’s population has a hard time hearing? That’s a lot of people! By adding subtitles, you’re making your videos accessible to those with hearing difficulties. Plus, even if your viewers don’t have any hearing issues, they might still prefer watching with subtitles for various reasons. By being inclusive and adding subtitles, you’re opening up your content to a wider audience.
2. Breaking the Language Barrier:
Subtitles are like magical tools that help you reach people who speak different languages. Just think about all those amazing Korean dramas or foreign films. Without subtitles, we’d miss out on some incredible entertainment! The same goes for presentations, educational videos, music videos, and more. By adding subtitles, you’re able to connect with a global audience and share your message with people from all around the world.
3. People May Not be Able to or Want to Use Audio:
Imagine someone watching your video in a crowded office, on a bus, or in a public space. It’s unlikely they’ll have the sound on. In fact, studies show that most videos on social media platforms like Facebook are watched on mute! By adding subtitles, you’re ensuring that even if your video is on mute, people won’t miss out on anything important. Plus, some people simply prefer to watch videos with subtitles, whether they’re multitasking or enjoying some quiet time.
Make Your Videos Stand Out with Subtitles!
Did you know that videos with subtitles on Facebook get more interaction, likes, and attention from viewers? Even without audio, people can still understand your message and engage with your video.
In fact, a staggering 85% of videos on Facebook are watched without sound. That’s why adding subtitles can boost your view time by 12%!
A study by Discovery Digital Networks found that videos with subtitles received over 7% more views than average. So if you want your video to be more engaging and grab people’s attention, subtitles are key.
In Doodly, it’s easy to add subtitles to your videos. You can enable or disable subtitles in the Video Settings and Scene Settings. Plus, you can customize the font color, size, background, and transparency of your subtitles.
Editing subtitles is a breeze. Just go to the Scene Settings, and you can change the font, background color, font size, and opacity. If you need to change the font style, you can simply add your subtitles as text in your scenes.
When it comes to choosing colors for your subtitles, it’s best to use dark text on a light background or vice versa. You can also match the color of your subtitles to your scene’s theme for a cohesive look.
There may be times when you want to disable certain subtitles in your video. With Doodly, it’s as easy as toggling the subtitle switch to “OFF” in the Scene Settings.
But subtitles aren’t just for viewers. They can also serve as a teleprompter for your own recordings. Whether you’re giving a presentation, recording a greeting message, or teaching an online course, Doodly’s subtitle feature is perfect for keeping you on track.
To use subtitles as a teleprompter, simply input your script in the subtitle settings and read it while recording your voiceover. No need to memorize your lines! And if you make a mistake, don’t worry. You can easily delete and re-record.
Once you’re happy with your voiceover, you can disable the subtitles in the Video Settings. It’s that simple!
So why wait? Make your videos more engaging and captivating with subtitles in Doodly. Try it out for yourself and see the difference it makes.

Subtitle Menu:
A Versatile Tool for More Than Just Subtitles!
Did you know that the subtitle menu can be used to add notes or reminders to your audience? If you don’t want to add subtitles to your video, simply use the subtitles text field to include important information or additional insights for your viewers.
While playing your video, you can pause and discuss your notes, or provide extra information after your presentation. You can even use it for personal purposes.
Avoid Overloading One Scene with Words
Sometimes, you come across a scene that requires a lengthy voiceover or subtitle. For example, when discussing a chart or multiple facilities in a school. In such cases, a couple of sentences may not be enough to explain the content.
But fear not! There’s a solution. Instead of cramming all the information into one scene, you can split it into several scenes and distribute the subtitles accordingly.
Let’s take the example of a scene with five sentences in the subtitle. We can create five separate scenes, each with only one sentence. But before duplicating the scene, let’s make sure to adjust some settings to save time.
Here’s what you need to update in Doodly:
1. Extra Time at the End:
Reduce the extra time at the end of the scene to prevent the video from becoming too long.
2. Exit Animation:
Set the exit animation to None to ensure a smooth transition between scenes.
3. Edit Asset Settings:
Choose the Fade reveal mode and set the animation duration to 1 second for a seamless visual experience.
4. Asset Settings:
Make sure the enter animation is set to None to maintain consistency.
Once these settings are updated, you can duplicate the scene four more times. Right-click on the first scene in the timeline and repeat this process.
Now that you have five scenes, you can edit the subtitles for each scene by accessing the Scene Settings.
– In Scene 1, keep the first sentence and delete the rest of the subtitles.
– In Scene 2, delete the first sentence and keep the second, deleting the rest.
– In Scene 3, delete the first, second, fourth, and fifth sentences, keeping only the third.
– In Scene 4, delete the first three sentences and the last one, keeping only the fourth.
– In Scene 5, keep the last sentence and delete the rest.
By breaking down the content into smaller scenes and distributing the subtitles accordingly, you can ensure that your audience can easily follow and engage with your presentation.
