How to Import Assets and Create Draw Paths in Doodly
Want to make your animated videos even more unique? With Doodly, you can easily import your own assets and create custom draw paths. In this blog, we’ll show you how to import images, audio files, and fonts, as well as how to create draw paths. Plus, we’ll cover sharing and exporting assets.
Importing Your Own Assets
To upload your own images, audio files, and fonts in Doodly, follow these simple steps:
Log in to your Doodly account.
Click “Create New Video” and enter the title for your video.
From the Edit Video page, go to the Assets Panel and click on “Props”.
Click the “+” sign to upload your image, or simply drag and drop it into the pop-up window.
Note: If you have trouble uploading an image from your desktop, try moving it to the Downloads folder first.
Importing Audio
To import an audio file, follow these steps:
- Go to the Assets Panel and click on “Sounds”.
- Click the “+” sign and select the audio file from your computer, or drag and drop it into the pop-up window.
- Click “Continue” to save the new audio file.
Importing Fonts
If you’re looking for a specific font that’s not included in your Doodly font list, you can download it for free from online resources like fonts.google.com. Here’s how:
- Check the available fonts in Doodly to make sure the one you want isn’t already there.
- Go to fonts.google.com and find the font you need.
- Click on the font and download it.
- Unzip the downloaded file.
- Upload the .ttf file in Doodly.
- Now you can use the new font in your Doodly project.
Creating Draw Paths
Doodly automatically creates a scribble pattern to draw your imported image. If you want more precision, you can manually create draw paths. Here’s how:
- Select the image and click the pencil icon.
- This opens up the Edit Asset screen, where you can choose different drawing options for your paths.
Let’s take a closer look at each menu and what it does:
Live Preview
With the live preview, you can see the changes to your image in real-time. As you add draw paths, you’ll be able to preview the changes as you go. You can zoom in for a better view and make sure you haven’t missed any spots.
Background Options
You have three options for the background of your image: white, black, or transparent. If your example image already has a black background, there’s no need to change it. You can stick with the default white background. However, for images with lighter colors, you can choose either black or transparent.
Actions
This is your save button. You can either Save & Return or Return without saving.
Tools
The tools menu includes Move point, Add point, and Delete point. You can use these tools to add, move, or delete draw paths.
Path Size
Use this menu to adjust the size of your draw paths depending on the lines in your image.
Zoom
The zoom buttons allow you to zoom in or out of your working image so you can see all the details.
Animation Duration
By default, the hand-drawn animation of your image lasts three seconds. You can change the speed and duration in this menu.
Reveal Mode
You have two options for revealing your image: Draw or Fade. Choose Draw if you want the image to be hand-drawn as it enters the screen, or Fade if you prefer a fading motion effect.
Reveal Paths
Each stroke in your image is a path. Use this menu to create new strokes by adding new paths.
Here’s an example of how to create a draw path:
For manual png and jpeg images, you’ll need to create custom draw paths. However, if you’re using an SVG file, there are pre-set paths that Doodly will automatically draw along when imported.
To use an SVG image, follow these steps:
Import the SVG file. Keep in mind that the maximum image size allowed in Doodly is 1920 x 1080.
Click on the image and select the pencil icon.
On the Edit Asset screen, find and click the Load SVG Paths menu located at the bottom right.
Remember to click “Save and return” to apply your changes.
