It was in February 2001 I was actually a bankrupt author living in a trailer park, just trying to make enough money to survive. At the time I was trying to sell my ebook about for sale by owner – real estate online with a huge 40-page website.

The big problem was that I wasn’t making any money and then I was bleeding cash. I realized I had to start making money or my life was about to get even worse. If I didn’t fix this, I was going to have to go find some crap job and that was going to kill my dreams forever.

So sitting there in that trailer, I realized the key to my future success was that I had to get really good at sales copy really fast and I had to become a master at using the right words to make people buy.

And that’s when I learned, that’s when I started to learn how to use specific blueprints and scripts to create sales messages that worked online and offline because I saw that I could just plug my message into those blueprints and structures to create my own sales copy.

My plan was to start by converting my 40-page website down to a one-page long-form sales letter website.

So I started right where I was, which was actually in a hotel in Denver, Colorado because I was speaking in a seminar about search engine promotion and I was introduced to this idea of a single long-form sales letter.

So I stayed up all night working on it, converting that big 40 page sales website down to a single sales letter, and when I checked my sales the next day, my conversion had gone up 250% I was ecstatic, but he didn’t stop there because when I got home I created another one page sales letter to sell another product. I had actually on mortgage financing and was able to start selling that. Finally.

Then I created a sales letter from my boss that ultimately made over $100,000 in three months selling a $97 product. And I did that in addition to my full-time job for this guy.

And after that, we started creating new products to sell with these one-page sales letters because now we knew that we could sell virtually anything that we came up with and then building on that success.

That’s when I made the internal commitment. I’d made it up here, but I made it in my heart that I was going to get really good at sales copy to become the ultimate student of what really worked and what didn’t, not so that I can be a copywriter for other people and not so that I could say, you know,
